Which by all accounts was utterly shite! My old man hasn't mentioned a single thing about his multiple summer holidays in Pittenweem that didn't involve the walk to the harbour to fish, and then presuably walk back (if so I had already switched off)! Laugh

Good luck getting India to stop buying up the the Australian outback, mining the coal and selling it to China to open new coal power stations every month Sound

If it's really as bad as they say it is, we'd be fucked even if everyone in Britain lived in a tent and ate wild berries everyday Vlad Shrug

The 'let's do nothing because India and China' argument is so fucking stupid.

We absolutely should be putting pressure on those nations, but how would we do that without taking action ourselves? Particularly when we have historically still produced more emissions than they have (bearing in mind that climate change has had a cumulative effect over centuries and carbon stays in the atmosphere anyway), and would effectively be telling them that they now have to abstain from benefits they didn't enjoy and we did.

One practical way to put pressure on those nations which we could do, btw, would be to pass legislation stopping British banks from investing in new fossil fuels projects (including in nations like China/India). So it's not even true to say that legislation passed here can't have an impact there.

This argument is just the updated version of climate denialism for the same reactionary thickos who would like to still go down that route, but realise it's now discredited.

Who said we shouldn't take action ourselves like? Obviously we should but the amount of carbon/emissions these countries produce dwarves what Britain would do in several decades. The point is, we've probably already fucked the world.

Nobody in charge of anything knows what they're doing.
Plastics...
Let's ban straws and fucking cotton buds....
That's some laughable shite right there.
The majority of the plastics causing harm comes from fishermen dumping all their shite in the sea, but nobody wants to stop that, because it makes folk too much money.

The idea that what these countries are doing 'dwarves what Britain' is doing only works if you act as though climate change started in the last decade or so. The China/India argument and the argument that 'we're fucked regardless' are never any more than deflection tactics to undermine the suggestion that we should take action. In very simple terms, what this report and others suggest is that it's already baked in that things will continue to get worse for decades, but we can still avoid literal extinction. So shrugging your shoulders and saying 'people who care are all idiots. I am very clever' is just reactionary nonsense.

The UK government go on about how great we’re doing in meeting our climate targets, but we’ve just stopped making anything and imported from China instead, whilst sending all our recycling to Turkey to be burned in landfill.

What’s stopping any nation from ending fossil fuel subsidies and bringing in a carbon tax tomorrow? Not one major western country is willing to be the first to potentially damage their economy to get the ball rolling Fat Cunt

New Zealand or Canada are having a decent go at it, are they not? I'm sure I've read that but maybe it's just lip service.

I'm not sure cretins like Boris and Joe Biden are going to get their heads together in Glasgow and get the whole thing knocked on the head.

I honestly think (or hope) the governments are sitting on something to sort it out. The pumps on the Arctic ice or the engineered plankton fields etc.

I mean, the governments of the world know that this could be the end of us. Even the rich. Theres no escaping whats coming.

Whats the point funding NASA or anything else for the future when you potentially have worldwide destruction on the horizon.

The ignorance of some of the big playing countries weirdly makes me feel that they have something up their sleeve and for whatever gain they arent revealing it just now. Hopeful/wishful thinking from me.
