Hope you’re right on this btw - it’ll be interesting to see how big a part the climate emergency plays in elections worldwide over the next couple years. Probably a depressingly small part but you can live in hope I suppose.

Hope you're right, obv, but people are selfish. It isn't really affecting people in the UK, and probably won't by the time of the next election. Plus, the majority of the press is owned by people who don't want to do anything about it.

Acey, I think you're missing Alan's point. He's not saying that things will turn because people will become more altruistic in the next 4 years. He's suggesting there will be a 9/11 environmental event in a Western country within the next 5 years that will focus hearts and minds on addressing environmental disasters.

So in some ways I hope Alan is wrong. Certainly in 10-15 years coastal communities in the UK will start to feel the real effects of the climate impacts and they will be wanting the government to step in to cover insurance/recovery costs.

Edit - I re-read your post Acey and noticed you have said similar to me in effect. But yeh.

If what’s going on in Australia at the moment doesn’t move the needle in the UK a wee bit, then we’re fucked. Monty Oh Well

Seen this latest cummings nonsense?

Whatever you think of 'classic dom' he's clearly a man who has been given a huge amount of power, is completely unaccountable and has a lot of ideas (which he has set out in his blogs for years) which will rip up the what amounts to a constitution in this country, as well as potentially rewriting the nature of british society/democracy, because he believes in disruptive power of tech and shaking things up (via electoral fraud and data harvesting etc etc).

well now he's advertising for 'weirdos' to work for him in No 10. And the media thinks 'well its a laugh isnt it.'

Seems about right. Someone else on the thread said it is "...as if someone's fed a neural net Silicon Valley buzzwords, job adverts, and Atlas Shrugged.

The idea that one instigates "disruptive" changes to master the chaos - if you're a social Darwinist."

Mind how Brexit was to stop unelected civil servants and bureaucrats having lots of power over the UK?

It’s 1pm and I’ve already woken up to war with Iran and Cummings first steps in seizing total control of the institutional apparatus of the UK.
Not to forgot Australia highlighting the climate catastrophe ahead.

It's not like we haven't been warned. The guy publishes this shit for everyone to see, and gives talks, and pretty much no one gives a fuck.

Quote:In SW1 communication is generally treated as almost synonymous with ‘talking to the lobby’. This is partly why so much punditry is ‘narrative from noise’.

With no election for years and huge changes in the digital world, there is a chance and a need to do things very differently.

We’re particularly interested in deep experts on TV and digital. We also are interested in people who have worked in movies or on advertising campaigns. There are some very interesting possibilities in the intersection of technology and story telling

Your Twitter Corbynistas are actually so fucking stupid man. Labelling Starmer a “Blairite” because he actually presents as competent and for being whipped on a vote on Welfare Reform. The worst kind of snooty, champagne socialist pricks - celebrating an election loss like it was a landslide victory and quite happy for folk to suffer Tory policies forever more so long as it doesn’t mean any compromise on their ideological purity. Children, the lot of them. Some of the stuff I’ve seen them come out with over the last few days is honestly wild. I saw a few folk saying that Starmer has a chance of winning an election and that proves he’s the wrong leader because any leader offering the change we need will be hounded/denigrated by the media and lose. That logic Warnock

Everyone knew Corbyn would lose and they argued blind he wouldn’t. Now they want someone else who will lose. Trying to become a Government isn’t about creating an elitist club ffs.
