Is this the thread where Morph pops in every few weeks to tell us he's going to start lifting soon? I look forward to those contributions.

I've finally admitted to myself that popping to the gym to hammer out some dumbbell sets 3 times a week whilst ignoring my diet isn't doing me any favours. Started doing cardio for the first time in my puff and watching my calories in a bid to shift my gut.
DIEL? Not just now, lads. Not just now.

Then GTFO.

Trying to cut after a heavy december, being careful(ish) with diet, my issue tbh is mainly portion control. Was in the gym on tuesday at 10pm after a late one at work and had zero energy. Had to just do some shoulder press, chins, dips and a few decline plate crunches and fuck off home.

Confident of getting the deadlift, less so with military press. Also doing light squats, pull-ups and weighted crunches. 3,600 calories/day at the moment, u mad calorie counters? Bobby Walker broke all the powerlifting records of his day while still dribbling a football.

What gym do you all use?
Pure Gym is just a total joke in terms of how busy it is. Really could do with something far quieter.

the edinburgh uni gym is good for the price and is usually full of 19-20yo bursds :pinilla:

How much and how busy?

+1 for Edinburgh uni
Busier now all the students are back, but big enough to accommodate everyone. You won't be waiting for equipment. Also, the bursds.

Pure in Glasgow is becoming a farce as well. They've done a good job rearranging things, and have freed up a load of space. If they use it for a few more racks then it will be pretty decent, but at the moment it's bare jokes. They bought these two ridiculous leg press machines, and keep adding shan new equipment instead of adding more free weights.
I know they need the machines to keep attracting new members, but there's something like 30 treadmills FFS.
£35 a month is decent. I'm paying about £20 a month for pure and it's as no frills as you can get.
The gym at Ocean T is actually a decent size, but they have this shan wee section for the free weights and the rest of the gym is covered in cardio machines. The free weights bit is by far the busiest part as well. Can never be fucked trying to find a wee space. You are doing dumbbell bench press with some cunt standing directly over you doing curls because there is no space. Absolute shambles at times.

£25 a month for me. Could get it for £17 if I took out a years contract but I'm just not that committed.

There are loads of freeweights at EU like if that is what you are after. A completely different room for weight machines and another with even more squat racks that I have never even been in (the main room has some as well) Its the best gym I have used in terms of equipment on offer. The only thing I would say Virgin Active is better for is classes. edit: I went and tried "The Gym" once when I was looking to leave VA. It was a total joke from a free weights point of view. Roid raged turkish guys who had never had a leg day in their life standing around having a gab over the only two benches

Classes are for 30 odd year old women so I'm cool for that m9

Edinburgh Uni gym is the best gym I've ever been a member of. Currently using St Andrews uni gym and it's alright compared to most commercial gyms but still pretty small. Queues for the squat racks when the students are all there. I generally go late morning, so it's not too bad. Evenings are a nightmare.
