Kimbo Slice V Dada 5000 last nightÂ
Absolute embarrassment (even for Bellator)Â that this fight even happened, but the ending...
02-20-2016, 12:22 PM
Why's it an embarrassment?
02-20-2016, 12:41 PM
Look at the state of them, absolutely no professional training or method in their fighting - just cuddled each other. Â They were both out of breath after the first round and Dada was taken out of the ring on a stretcher not because of the damage done by Slice but because he was so exhausted Â
The 'TKO' itself proves how embarrassing it was. Â It's a terrible representation of MMA and its fighters. Â Bellator in general is an embarrassment, the main card last night was between a 49 and 52 year old.Â

It's 2 back yard fighters going toe to toe. I don't think anyone believes that it represents UFC. Surely it was a novelty match and every single person watching understood that?

Everyone but you I mean.

It's a novelty match, but it's a bit of a joke that it's been shown on a promotion which aspires to be seen as a major one. It makes a mockery of the sport, in much the same way as if a couple of really pish teams were let into the Champions League every year for a laugh.
Btw, referring to MMA as 'UFC' is like referring to football as 'Champions League'. The UFC is a promotion, not the name of the sport. This fight didn't take place in the UFC.

It's been bigged up for weeks given their history and the fact Bellator saw it as a bit of a coup (when really, no one else would touch it). Â This will have fooled a lot of people into watching it.Â
You only have to look at some of the reactions on Twitter to realise that. Â

Never heard of Bellator.
Don't think I pay attention to any MMA fights outside the UFC. Is it really a surprise a lesser known organisation will use well known names like Kimbo Slice to try and self publicise? Did kimbo not fight in the UFC at one point as well?

It's not really 'lesser-known' (although admittedly the UFC's really the only promotion which has much mainstream appeal). Kimbo did fight in the UFC at an earlier stage in its history when more of a 'cage fighter' vibe was promoted, by which I mean that the aspect of MMA as a no-holds-barred* scrap was emphasised. In the present day people involved in MMA, from the highest to the lowest level, are mostly trying to portray a different image based on the fighters' athletic capabilities and the amount of training and dedication it takes to become proficient in all of the different aspects of MMA. With fights like this, Bellator seem to be trying to go back to a vibe of overweight psychos swinging for each other with no technique. It's a bit disappointing when so much effort's being made to get more mainstream acceptance. From a marketing point of view you can see their problem, though. They're never going to be a rival to the UFC, so either they have to accept their status as a second tier promotion which develops fighters who'll then move onto bigger things or they have to go with the WWE angle. Imo the first would be a better bet: their audiences will be lower than the UFC's, but fights like last night's aren't going to get them many new fans either. *figuratively speaking

Kimbo Slice looks to have vastly improved his wrestling and top control game to keep Dada at bay - might be a big lummox but still a dangerous striker. Kimbo looks like a more well rounded fighter and was fighting a much bigger guy.
No rep, no problem
