Of course I know better of the #THF and associate such thoughts with the puddle drinkers from over the road. Livingston is Glasgow overspill. Anything West of the Newbridge roundabout is overspill new towns to house post industrial West coasters. Everyone in Edinburgh visits Glasgow often. If not often then at least once/twice a year for shopping etc..
I like Glasgow but the folk there have a massive chip on both shoulders regarding Edinburgh.
One of my best mates is a weegie and he's always giving it the 'teuchter' stuff. Massive inferiority complex but I don't blame then. Edinburgh is dece as fuck  I'm through on Glasgow a lot at gigs and it's always the same pish about the accent you get from folk.

The worst thing is the rest of Scotland have normal accents, but the weejies have this half Irish, half Scottish whiny accent and they think because everyone on BBC Scotland and Clyde 1 talk like weejies then that's "real Scotland' they are the anomaly, not the rest of Scotland.

Calling someone from Fife or Edinburgh a Teuchter just highlights the failings of the glasgow educational system. I've met at least 4 people who have never been to edinburgh and a few others whose only trip had been to visit the zoo with their school. Madness.
It may be because I socialise strictly within progressive, ultra cosmopolitan circles but I've never met someone from Edinburgh that hasn't been to Glasgow before. How fucked up must you be to not have travelled 40 mins along a motorway during your whole lifetime.
Absolute bizarre. As you say Walter, I've met scores of glaswegians who "visited Edinburgh to see the castle as a bairn" Â Apparently they just feel uncomfortable even being near Edinburgh. That is one big chip on the shoulder considering they visited when they were 7 and remember precisely zero about one of the most beautiful cities in all of christendom

They said they stood in a the Grassmarket for an hour looking for it and had no idea where it was, so headed home

I hope your "everyone in Edinburgh" statement doesn't include some of the clowns from over the road?? I agree that there are a lot of people through here in the West with a chip on both shoulders about Edinburgh, of that there is no doubt. I also agree that the nasal whine that is heard from neds & junkies alike through here, gives the rest of Glaswegian's a bad name in regards to accents, but some variations of the Edinburgh accent can grate also.
