A Steve Banks medal. edit: in fact, Banks was on the bench for us, United, and Saints so not even an SB medal for Leo in 05/06.

I just looked into it a bit more, he wasn't even on the bench for the quarters or the semis in 05/06, the latest part of the competition he appeared in was the knockout round against Chelsea which rather undermines the point about Ronaldo contributing little in the finals he won. At least he actually featured in all five of them.

\the 18 yr old tore his thigh muscle in the match vs Chelsea. Slagging an 18 yr old for not getting to play in a final after he tore The Blues a new one; shameful.

Imagine dismissing a hattrick against Spain but posting gifs of Messis only goal (v Nigeria) as if it was the World Cup winner

If only he had superstars like Adrien Silva, William Carvalho, Jose Fonte and João Mario in his team he'd show the world what he's really made of

What is not in doubt however, and no matter how you cut it, is that they both possess respective medals. You can however argue about how they were playing up until that point when they ceased to influence. I'd take Messi's CL performances over CR7's Euro ones.

I've done a wee bit of research here. What's this? 1 goal in 6 appearances? A wee meaningless fifth in a 5-0 defeat of Panathinaikos? Subbed off after an hour in one match and 25 minutes in another? Subbed on for the last 20 minutes in another 2 of his appearances? Only lasted 90 minutes twice? Nowhere to be seen in the later stages? And this is better than Cristiano Ronaldo dragging his barely-workmanlike team to their first and only major international honour? Must have been some two games the wee man put in

Oh dear. That bears so little relation to the reality that I won't even get into it. You're the one favourably comparing a couple of ineffectual substitute appearances to captaining your country to a major honour, by the way.

The cognitive dissonance of being willing to completely disregard important contributions made by Ronaldo in big matches (his MOTM performance against Hungary where he scored two and set up one to keep his country in the tournament, for one; his baffling insistence that Ronaldo didn't play well against Spain another), whilst giving credit to Messi for performances he didn't even make - and in fact excusing him for performances where he genuinely contributed nothing - is incredible.
On the one hand willing to credit Messi with a Champions League final he didn't even play in, whilst on the other being willing to denigrate other people's achievements because they got carried off in the final, after making huge contributions to get them there in the first place. Wow PS. All that “Messi is an artist†pish is celticky/Hibs shite and gives me the boke. Neg for the next person to wheel it out. |
