Although it's a while since I've been and when I did it was always for some deal on midweek lunches with work, which might have explained why so much of it was deep fried. I think Serrano Manchego on Leith Walk is much better.

Topalabamba has the same owners as Pinto. They have a cracking business model - table turnaround must be about an hour max, and you are 'recommended' to buy 3 or 4 small plates, and I'm sure it must all be sitting ready to dish up and bash the plates out.
It is a decent scran though.

Waiting staff all trained to push the mezcal and tequila at extortionate prices as well. I said exactly the same as you when I was in - street food tapas type places are a goldmine if you get them right. They're in fashion, quick table turnaround and people will always order more food than they need, as well as the food being quick and easy to prepare. I really liked it tbf.

Thought the drink was alright priced tbh. There was four of us. Two buckets of corona ( 5 bottles in each I think) for two of us and 6 margarita thingys between the other two plus a couple of glasses of juice. Came to about 50 quid for all that. Edit - just realised you were meaning bottles of tequila and that. Must admit I Didn't look notice the prices of them.

Aye the after dinner tequila menu - I think I paid something like 6-7 quid for a shot of mezcal. It's not breaking the bank, let's be honest, but expensive for a shot of fairly minging liquor you're pretending you enjoy so as not to embarrass yourself in front of your date (more than expected, of course)

Was in that gourmet burger kitchen on saturday night, as it was about quarter to ten, we had tried a few other places with no luck and nowhere else was looking very open, so we hedged our bets with somewhere willing to serve us, also we had been to handmade burger co across the road (which actually isn't too bad) once before so thought would try "GBK."
Utterly shite. Don't go there.

This at the west end of George Street? Apparently been doing 2 burgers for a fiver. Not surprised it's gash. I was at Chez Jules on Saturday. Quite a nice wee place.

Went to Troy cafe in Dalry for lunch, the portions in there are ridiculous. Don't think I'll need any food until tomorrow.

Don't know if they still have if, but they used to do lobster thermidor and chips for a tenner at lunch. Pinilla to the max. Sure I've recommended it on here before as a nice place to go if you're on a bit of a budget, but not a skrublord. I'm sure I have been to GBK before and it had no impact on my life whatsoever. Can't have been very good. Handmade is pretty good though. |
