Overtime in hospitality
Can mind agreeing to work 70odd hours two weeks on the bounce just before Christmas because I thought that I'd get four or five lieu days. Was told that even though I had worked 50 hours over my contracted hours in that two week period, I didn't work an extra day so wasn't entitled to any extra days off. Left soon after.
Not saying it's right but it's pretty much accepted by everybody in it that there's no overtime, unless you're working for some sort of massive company like the NHS.
Tell you what a lot of made of NHS staff being underpaid but their overtime is a joke. Obviously deserve it but they can be walking away with double/triple their monthly wage each month.
I would also say just because you work for the NHS doesn't make you a hero, yes certain people will be underpaid for the job they do but you'll also have a lot of cretins who do near enough fuck all who are probably overpaid. can't just have blanket pay rises over the whole NHS.
Knew a nurse working in the hospital in capital of our region; was easily one the highest paid workers in the territory. OT was outrageous, and ALWAYS available. Territorial govt haemorrhaging money to agency staff, but no real option as demand greater than supply, etc. We often said should quit out govt jobs, train up and work for 10yrs max. Retire!

They're clearly some of the most important people in the country and should be paid as such, but it seems wrong to me that folk are deliberately working more and more for that sweet sweet double time/time and a half just because they work for the NHS.
Hate folk that come into the restaurant and moan that we don't give them a discount too just because they're a receptionist at the hospital or something, and I don't feel like upping the prices for normal people to cover the costs of NHS discounts left right and centre.

Don't get double time at the NHS, time and a third or time and 2 thirds for o/t. The £500 bonus was a joke too, admin staff working from home got it too. Council carers who have been going into folks houses right through the pandemic got fuck all and offered a 2% pay rise despite being paid significantly less than comparable staff at the NHS

I recognise that it's a difficult job & for the most part they do work hard & deserve a good salary but I'm not sure there's a group of workers who whinge more about pay than NHS employees. Regularly hear my bird and her mates talk about how underpaid they are. I'm not sure there's any other job you would go into straight out of uni in Scotland where you can make £40k+ the first year. Maybe going off shore or something.

Who's going in straight from Uni and making £40k likes?
Where? From what I know they start approx £27-28k basic while they can get extra for working outside standard hours however that's 0790-2200 Monday to Saturday so opportunities for topping it up isn't that frequent

That's the basic band but typically they will get 1.5x that band in the first year.
