That goal is where I hate VAR. Checking for the sake of checking and killing the moment.

You need to check though because with VAR every goal is forensically examined, if you didn't check and it turns out someone was ever so slightly offside then what is the point in VAR?

It was brought in last summer as soon as every competition the rulemakers are interested in had adopted VAR, as a direct result of the controversy about the inconsistencies between Champions League and domestic leagues' interpretations of handball last season. It's VAR correctly implementing a nonsense rule that was brought in for VAR - surely it's not too hard to connect the dots to see that VAR is the cause of these awful calls?

I think the Champions League one you are referring to was the Man U - PSG block when the player turned his back and it was deemed to be a handball. The rule that has been changed is that even an accidental handball which creates a goal scoring opportunity is a foul so I'm not sure about those being connected. Handball has been a bone of contention for as long as I've been watching football and they've never got the rule right. I'm not buying that this is all down to VAR. It is shite rule making for something they don't know what to do about.

Aye the other end of the pitch but there were various ones like the Man U penalty that were consistently given in the CL when domestic European leagues wouldn't have given them, so they've tried to fix the whole thing. The point with VAR is it allows for zero subjectivity so if you have a handball rule it has to be either any touch of the hand is a foul or anything is fair game - it's a nonsense, and if you just left the refs to use their common sense they'd get the vast majority of them right.

Not a bad start for Haaland at Dortmund, off the bench with them 3-1 down, scores his first after 3 minutes and has just given them the lead with his second, 4-3!

Now has his hat trick .......3 on his debut in 23 minutes!
