Anyway this is unlikely to affect us in Britain, and even post Brexit Britain already had implemented its own version of NN before the EU so I can't see this happening here.

Because you often just wade in with wee Lewy level opinions and it can be frustrating. There's a huge movement in the US to stop this happening, ISPs have chucked millions at it to make it happen, but you for some reason can't see why it would happen. Even after being informed further on the subject you're still just like naaah don't think so.

If it's only America then who gives a fuck tbh, it's another one of those things that folk will make a big deal out of for a wee bit until the next thing comes along and nobody cares anymore.

It's not a Lewis level opinion at all, it's just an opinion you disagree with so as usual try to belittle it.

Just because you've put yours across doesn't mean you've “informed me further” on the subject. I understand the principle of net neutrality I don't need you to come in and enlighten me.

I've already said I think it's a very regressive move to make as the law protects it indefinitely. However I don't see it playing out the way was discussed on this thread. I can't see ISPs basically dictating what other giants like Amazon, Google etc can and can't do on that scale. I think if anything you'll see less drastic things like I think Scott posted above. ISPs making it initially difficult to use Google wallet because they want people to use their version. Ultimately it never really lasts though.

My point is I don't think we're ever going to get to the point where we're going to be out of pocket to pay to access sites as part of packages. It will be businesses who find it most problematic when these ISPs start trying to push certain products.

It just reinforces a very unfair economy but that sums America up in a nutshell. When have they ever been set up to favour everyone?

I agree, but the real victims on a corporate level were never going to be Amazon or Google.

I hope you're right, but you already pay more for "unlimited internet" packages, and more for "superfast" speeds. In America it's notoriously shite because Comcast and Verizon have so little competition.

Not really sure what point you're making here. If it's accepted in America, then I guarantee that ISPs over here will be looking into how they can get something similar going.

fwiw it's a certainty that various major players will try and make life more difficult for other major players. All the talk over the last few days is that disney is looking to set up a rival to netflix and amazon prime. Why wouldn't there be a situation where one of those three is own by someone who also has an ISP and therefore throttle speeds to the other two.

The big losers will be smaller companies as they'll not be able to break in to the big leagues as easily, but it's also wrong to say that customers won't lose out on access to mainstream content.

It will stifle innovation at the lowest level. Which is bad for everyone. Start ups will find it more difficult to enter the market and it will get to the stage that all the good ideas will be hosted and you'll have to pay a fee for them.

It's really pretty bad.

Americans pay the highest broadband prices in the world because they deregulated high speed internet access and due to there only being a handful of massive corporations controlling the market, they were bent over and shafted as they had no choice. Sounds like exactly what will happen here if this passes. I can't understand the logic of thinking it will not change anything.

Thankfully there doesn't seem to be the same mixture of issues here in Britain that could lead to that but you can bet anything that if this goes through and money is being made then something will happen. The tories are dying to control the internet for 'security'.

America is in a strange place. Google are rolling out a fibre network which provides users with 1GB/1GB for around £45 a month. However most companies are trying to develop satellite broadband due to the geography of the states, blowing fibre is expensive.
