Pretty gutted for one of my friends. Getting married on Saturday at Mansfield Traquair. Not sure exactly how much they've spent on it but I doubt it's cheap.
Folk are understandably cancelling pretty much by the minute but because there's no official ban from the government the venue are refusing to cancel and obviously their wedding insurance isn't valid under these circumstances.

Just wanted some parsley and some Irn Bru. Got back to my house to find the door locked. Hammered on the door for ten minutes, no response. Crossed the road to look up at the windows. Saw my female flatmate sitting on the top floor at her computer. Saw her notice me. Waved wildly, indicating that I wanted her to open the door. She waved back then went back to her computer and ignored me.

If the government does shut down all restaurants, bars, theatres and so on, then they'll have no option but to bail them all out, and I'm assuming that's why they haven't done it. Insurance companies will only pay out if you've got business interruption insurance and most of these policies only cover closures due to fire damage, storm damage and equipment breakdown. Even if your policy does state that it covers diseases, they're usually listed as specific diseases and you'll be unable to claim as Covid-19 won't be on the list.
Genuinely starting to get a bit panicked, that's us now had every table booked for Friday cancel. |
